AIDS Benefit Concert at Tobacco Road Offers More Than Just Live Music

Aside from live music by The Coffee House Gypsies, the AIDS Benefit scheduled for Wednesday, April 14th, on the second floor of Miami's infamous Tobacco Road will also feature free anonymous oral-swab HIV testing, all you can eat BBQ rib dinners, a bar tab raffle, and more!

In honor of AIDS Awareness in South Florida, Miami's TOBACCO ROAD (located at 626 South Miami Avenue, 33130) will be doing much more than just hosting live music this month. At 9:00 PM on Wednesday, April 14, the iconic restaurant/bar/venue will play host to an important and much needed AIDS WALK Pep Rally/Benefit Concert. Admission is $10 and you must be 21 or older to attend. Advanced tickets are on sale now for just $7 each. Will call and ticket pickup is available for ticket purchases. The event is organized by popular local band The Coffee House Gypsies and will feature several musical guests. Among the invited are Phoenix (from phoenix/NEBULIN), Zaida (from Ego Band), Tony Cruz (of The Bailouts), Margaux Penichet (from For The Record) and Carmen Tauler and Frances Gronlier (of Pretty On Paper). Tenement Hall Productions, LLC along with Damian's Dream Music, DJ Oski, The Queen of The Scene, QOOL Shows, and PEARL Arts & Crafts, have all banned together to help support this cause and event.

During the three hour concert on the venue's second floor THE ROAD will be serving all you can eat BBQ rib dinners for only $10.99. Between 9 and 11 PM the good people of will offer free on-site anonymous oral-swab HIV testing to anyone who wants to know their status. Lots of freebees and goodies will be given away, including a raffle-prize bar tab. There will be plenty of information available regarding the AIDS Epidemic in South Florida, including that of prevention and treatment, all being distributed at the show. Care Resource will also have counselors and staff on site during the event to answer any questions.

The Cuban artist and painter, Celia Crespo will do live painting during the show. All artwork will benefit South Florida locals in need with AIDS. Several local bands supporting the cause will also be selling their CDs at the show and all profits from those CD sales are going to help locals in need with AIDS. It all starts at 9:00 PM on the second floor of Tobacco Road at 626 South Miami Avenue on Wednesday, April 14th.

They were the only band to-date to win nine Status QuO South Florida Live Music Awards with nominations in ten categories. In 2009 South Florida's Sun Sentinnel called the Miami band "a band of nomads who keep moving to different musical genres." The Miami Herald said, "CHG's sound is reminiscent of The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and The Mamas and the Papas," referring to them as "a quintessential jam band." Miami New Times said "Fans of Fleetwood Mac, the Mamas and the Papas, and 97.3 FM should dig this group without question. Their harmonies, both vocal and instrumental, are soothing and give a generally upbeat feel."
