The demand for healthcare professionals is set to grow at a phenomenal rate. Medical Specialists, who receive training in diverse clinical and administrative functions, are being sought after by doctors' offices, hospitals, laboratories and health centers across the country. To meet this growing demand, Stevens-Henager College introduces an Occupational Associate?s Degree in Medical Specialties for students seeking a career in the medical field.

The U.S. Department of Labor projects very good job prospects for medical specialists. Due to rapid growth in the number of medical tests, treatments, and procedures, the Labor Department predicts ?faster than average growth? in the employment of medical records and health information technicians through 2012. It says further that medical assistants are likely to account for a large number of new jobs and those who have formal training and certification will enjoy the best job opportunities. So far as remuneration is concerned, the average annual salary of medical assistants was $26,290 in May 2006, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Occupational Associate?s Degree in Medical Specialties introduced by Stevens-Henager College will train students in areas such as medical assisting, x-ray, laboratory technician, medical coding and billing, pharmacy technician, certified nursing assistant, rehabilitation, phlebotomy, and massage therapy. Training in such a wide base of medical specialties qualifies graduates for entry-level jobs in healthcare facilities. Students may find employment opportunities as medical assistants to surgeons, pediatricians, or general practitioners in a private office, hospital, or diagnostic laboratory. They may also work in hospitals or retail pharmacies as pharmacy technicians with expertise in drugs and dosages, ordering, receiving, stocking, dispensing, calculating, and pricing.

The Associate Medical Specialties degree is set to impart the necessary computer skills and essential techniques required to work efficiently as a medical specialist besides preparing students for possible licensure or certification from various medical associations such as NCICS for billing and coding, NCPT for phlebotomy technician, surgical technologist, and EMT, NCET for ECG technician, etc.

At Stevens-Henager College, students can complete the Occupational Associate?s Degree in Medical Specialties in as little as 20 months under the FastFlex Program. What?s more, there is no waiting required for the next academic session to start as classes begin every month.

With a 115-year legacy of training graduates for high demand careers, Stevens-Henager College is committed to providing quality education to all its students and opening new doors of opportunity for them.
