The south's leading land-based college is celebrating after improving its staff rating under the celebrated Investors in People scheme.

A supportive environment for students and staff has helped Kingston Maurward College in Dorset retain its coveted Investors in People (IIP) status.

Academic bosses at the Dorchester campus say they are doubly delighted with the 2009 award because the college has improved its marks as part of the award's criteria.

To achieve this prestigious status, the college had to demonstrate policies and practices were in place to allow employees to achieve their best.

The IIP Standard is a framework helping organisations to improve their performance through better management and development of staff.

Kylie Stroud, HR manager at the college, said: "A particular strength of the college is the teacher-training provision where our team-teaching approach has resulted in excellent pass rates and student enjoyment."

The re-accreditation has also highlighted good examples of effective ICT staff training as well as the high number of personnel at the campus who say they enjoy their jobs and feel empowered in their careers.
