Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck Invites Volunteers to Provide BBQ Lunches and Dinners to Special-Needs Campers

Camp Paquatuck hosts a volunteer-run BBQ for Special Needs Campers

(Center Moriches, New York) — Fire up those grills! Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck is seeking volunteers from local organizations to cook BBQ lunch and dinner for campers throughout the course of the summer. The camp is dedicated to helping both physically and mentally challenged children and young adults and is proudly celebrating its 68th summer season.

Volunteers are invited to cook on the following dates:

• Lunches: July 20-23, 27-30; August 10-12, 17, 18, 24-27, 31; September 1-3.
• Dinners: July 20; August 17, 24, 31; September 1, 2.

Those who come to the camp will have the opportunity to serve lunch and dinner and spend time engaging with the campers. They will also be responsible for setting up before and cleanup afterwards.

Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck is a resident summer camp designed for children and young adults ages 6-21 with special needs. Its mission is to help children and adults achieve equality, dignity, and maximum independence through a safe and quality program of camping, recreation, and education in a summertime environment. Throughout the program, campers participate in typical summer camp activities, such as arts and crafts, talent shows, cook-outs, swimming and boating.

Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck was created by members of the Moriches Rotary Club in 1946. Located on the shores of Kaler's Pond on eastern Long Island, Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck is funded entirely by donations and is a special place where children and young adults with physical and developmental disabilities can experience first hand the pleasures that an active life has to offer. Children participate in a wide range of activities specially designed for youngsters who are in wheelchairs as well as those who are ambulatory. These activities include swimming, boating, arts and crafts, petting zoo, talent shows, cook-outs, games and a Carnival Day. The program also provides educational activities in areas such as nature, arts, fire safety and communication skills.
