Bangalore, 29 November, 2013: Jain University CMS Business School today hosted a seminar on Women Empowerment where India’s first highly ranked woman IPS officer and renowned social activist, Dr. Kiran Bedi addressed the female students asking them to develop an independent identity of their own in society by taking up an active role in various facades of life.
Highlighting concerns about issues that women have to undergo at various stages of their life on personal and professional front, Dr. Bedi urged them to have a clear vision of their future and pursue their dreams overcoming the likely challenges. Through her speech, she called for a compelling need to create awareness among people and asked the women students of Jain University to take a stand and fight for their rights. She played a crucial role in making the women students of Jain University realize their true potential and means of leveraging them.
Speaking on women empowerment, Dr. Bedi said, “Empowerment begins with Clarity in life which is then followed by Personal Management Plan and One’s Sense of Security. Keeping oneself updated with the latest in business and general issues helps in intellectual stimulation which will lead to both professional and personal growth.”
Referring to the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, Dr. Bedi opined that students, right from the beginning of their career stage should learn about the laws enabling them to fight for justice and gender equality in the society.
Dr Chenraj Roychand, Founder Chairman JGI Group and President Jain University Trust said, “We felt an urgent need in bringing awareness about women’s rights since the atrocities against them have been increasing recently. Dr. Kiran Bedi is an inspiration for women to fight for their rights and has set an example on how empowering women can lead to a better society. She has been instrumental in taking up several issues plaguing the society and the students of Jain University can learn from her. It is indeed a privilege and matter of great pride that she has taken time off her busy schedule and has consented to talk to the students at Jain University CMS Business School”.
Dr.Bedi, who was recently conferred with 'Doctor of Public Service' title for her overall contribution towards the society, is a crusader of equal rights and unparallel justice for all and has brought about many significant changes in the society through her words and her actions.
