The award was presented by The CWC Group, during the 12th World XTL Summit 2012, which took place at the Waldorf Hilton, London on 21-23 May 2012.

The CWC Group announced Shell and Qatar Petroleum as the winners of the prestigious World XTL 2012 Award at an Award Gala Dinner held at The Trafalgar Hotel, London on 22 May 2012. The award was presented by The CWC Group, during the 12th World XTL Summit 2012, which took place at the Waldorf Hilton, London on 21-23 May 2012. Shell and Qatar Petroleum, nominated by their peers in the gas, coal and biomass to liquids (XTL) industry, were recognised for their outstanding contribution to XTL innovation in the last 12 months and secured the award for their work on the Pearl GTL Project.

Pearl GTL, in Qatar is the world's largest GTL plant. Capturing the full value chain from offshore development through onshore gas processing and the refining of finished products, the project is fully integrated. Pearl GTL is the world's largest source of gas-to-liquids products, with a capacity of 140,000 barrels of GTL products each day, helping to meet the increasing global demand for high quality liquid hydrocarbons.

"The delivery of Pearl GTL by Shell and Qatar Petroleum demonstrates the robustness of our innovative GTL technology at world scale, as well as our project management capabilities. It is great that this has been recognised through this award," said Paul van Rijssen, Senior Business Development Manager XTL, Shell Upstream International.

Guy de Kort, VP XTL, Shell Projects & Technology added: "Shell has been developing GTL technology since the 1970s, so we have almost 40 years of research and experience in this field. This award is testament to the hard work of all the colleagues, researchers, engineers and business partners who have contributed to the success of Pearl GTL."

World XTL has been championing the industry for over a decade and is the Summit that provides updates on the progress and opportunities in gas, coal and biomass to liquids. The Summit offers the opportunity for industry leaders and experts to network and discuss the current challenges and possibilities of XTL. Recognised as the showcase for the XTL industry, the Summit is supported by industry players including its 2012 principal sponsor ORYX GTL. Other sponsors for 2012 include GTL F1; Oxford Catalysts; Shell; Axens; Compact GTL; BP and Infra Technology.
