Nashville Religion Communicators Council Holds Special Acknowledgement for DeRose Hinkhouse Winners

In today’s world where we hear more religious intolerance and bigotry than positive religious messages, the Religion Communicators Council (RCC) has a daunting task: help religious people communicate about their faith in a way that truly represents it.

“That is why the DeRose Hinkhouse awards have such an important role,” says Rev. Brian Fesler, President of the Nashville RCC chapter and Pastor of the Church of Scientology.

According to the RCC website, “The DeRose-Hinkhouse Memorial Awards are given annually to active members of the Religion Communicators Council (RCC) who demonstrate excellence in religious communications and public relations.”

“These awards acknowledge the best work of religion communicators and inspire others to do more. They uplift and shine the light on what is true and great about religion,” Fesler continued.

The Nashville chapter is planning a meeting to acknowledge local winners. According to their local website, “[RCC is] going to take the opportunity to celebrate the RCC DeRose Hinkhouse award winners from Nashville with a special acknowledgement meeting. There will be food, networking with old and new friends, a presentation of the winners and a look at what's to come for Nashville RCC in 2012.”

Among the Nashville chapter winners were Beth Richardson of the Upper Room, a section of the General Board of Discipleship of the United Methodist Church for her work on Alive Now magazine; and Dywuan Brown and Valerie King of Mount Zion Baptist Church, receiving certificates of merit for their work Trumpet Magazine.

The 2012 Award Coordinator was Laura Flippen Tenzel of the General Board on Higher Education and Ministries for the United Methodist Church, and a panel of judges was selected from Belmont University Department of Public Relations.

The meeting is set for June 20th.

The Religion Communicators Council (RCC), founded in 1929, is an interfaith association of religion communicators at work in print and electronic communication, marketing and in public relations. The RCC provides opportunities for religion communicators to learn from each other. Together, RCC members promote excellence in the communication of religious faith and values in the public arena and encourage understanding among religious and faith groups.
