Winning Student Designer Joyce Tabujara Helps Benefit Breast Cancer Charities

Save R Boobies, a breast cancer awareness organization, awarded graphic designer student Joyce Tabujara as the 1st place winner for the Student Design Contest. Her design will be printed on shirts to be sold on the organization's online breast cancer store summer 2010. Portions of apparel sales are donated to charities that provide direct services to women battling breast cancer.

Over 2,000 votes were casted for the public's favorite shirt design to help raise funds for breast cancer charities. Save R Boobies, a breast cancer awareness organization, visited Art Institute of California - Sacramento on June 16, 2010 to award Joyce Tabujara as the Student Design Contest winner. Her design will help expand the Save R Boobies apparel line and be sold on its online breast cancer store. Portions of apparel sales are donated to charities that provide direct services to women battling breast cancer.

Tabujara, a second year graphic design student at Art Institute of California - Sacramento, shared her inspiration was "learning personal stories of breast cancer survivors, like Gina Andrews." She further explained, "My design promotes the awareness that women should have about breast cancer, especially the early signs and symptoms, in hopes of it being prevented. I also emphasized the word 'war' because the women who are diagnosed continue to fight their 'war' and struggle through the treatment process."

The grand prize package included several gift certificates to local art and retail vendors, restaurants, and caf?s, worth about $200. Tabujara will also receive a shirt with her design and be featured in Save R Boobies' annual "Catwalk for the Cure" fashion show in late October.

"We received some great designs from the students at A.I. Some students were very creative in getting their friends and family members to vote for their design," stated Gina Andrews, founder of Save R Boobies. Tabujara created a funny YouTube video, encouraging others to vote for hers. Accordingly, she won the contest by a little over 50 votes. Some of the thousands of votes were from countries beyond the United States, such as Canada and Germany.

New shirts with Tabujara's design will be available on the online breast cancer store summer 2010. For additional information about the Student Design Contest, please contact Alana Paular or visit www.SaveRBoobies.com.
